# Should I sponsor a newsletter at $1K MRR?

**Verdict: Depends** – Depends – yes if you can name three customers acquired from that newsletter's audience; no otherwise.

> Sponsor a newsletter only when you can already name three customers (or three pipeline leads) who came from that newsletter's audience organically. If the audience converts when you reach them for free, paying to reach them at scale becomes a measurable channel. If you cannot point to organic conversion from that audience, a $500 to $5,000 sponsorship is a donation, not a marketing decision.

## Why

- Newsletter sponsorships rarely produce same-week conversions. Expect 6 to 12 weeks before the cohort converts, if it converts at all.
- Negotiate a custom UTM link and a follow-up share-of-voice (a re-mention 2-3 issues later) rather than a single placement.
- The cheapest newsletter sponsorship test is a guest essay – you trade the operator a piece of content for one named placement. Costs $0, teaches the same audience-fit question.
