What's the difference between an OTO and an upsell?

A One-Time Offer (OTO) appears once, immediately after the first purchase, often with a visible deadline ('this offer disappears'). An upsell can recur over time and be re-offered in different channels. OTOs have higher take rates (15 to 35%) because of the immediate-decision framing. Upsells have lower take rates per moment but more total opportunity over the customer lifetime.
