# Conversion rates for coaches

> Coaching economics are calendar-bound. Healthy: 1 to 3 paid clients per month from inbound, with 30 to 60% of discovery calls converting to paid clients. Volume is low; quality is everything. The bottleneck is usually positioning – clients arrive comparing rates instead of comparing transformations.

## Funnel-stage directional ranges

All ranges are directional. They depend on traffic source, price point, audience warmth, and cohort tightness.

### Site traffic → discovery call booked

**Directional range.** 0.5% to 2%

Cold traffic. Below 0.5% means positioning is generic; above 2% usually means warm traffic from referrals or content marketing.

### Booking → call show-up

**Directional range.** 60% to 90%

Coaches with paid 'discovery' (a $97 strategy call) see 90%+ show-up. Free discovery calls see 60 to 75% show-up; the friction at booking ironically reduces flake rate.

### Call → signed coaching package

**Directional range.** 30% to 60%

Warm referral calls close 50 to 70%; cold inbound calls close 20 to 40%. Below 20% means discovery is missing fit signals.

### Single-session client → multi-session package

**Directional range.** 40% to 70%

Coaches who upsell single sessions to packages within 60 days see 40 to 70% conversion. Below 40% means the single session didn't demonstrate enough value.

## What good looks like

1 to 3 paid clients per month, 40%+ call close rate, average package value $2K to $25K, retention rate 80%+ across sessions. Calendar is full of paid clients, not free discovery.

## What broken looks like

10+ discovery calls per month with <10% close, leads asking for hourly rates, full sessions but flat revenue. Wrong-fit positioning attracting the wrong cohort.

## Most common Brunson diagnosis

When coaches hit the diagnostic with flat numbers, the most-common label that comes back is **Weak Offer**. That doesn't mean every flat-rate cohort lands there – it's a directional prior worth checking first.

## Questions founders ask

### Why aren't my discovery calls converting to paid clients?

Usually Weak Offer: the call sells credentials and methodology instead of a specific transformation. The client can't picture the end state. Reframe the offer around the specific outcome by the specific date.

### Should I do free or paid discovery calls?

Paid for high-ticket coaching ($5K+ packages); free for lower-ticket. Paid discovery filters serious clients and reduces flake rate dramatically. Some coaches charge $97 to $497 for the discovery itself.

### Should I have group coaching alongside 1:1?

Almost always. The Brunson value-ladder pattern: group program ($497 to $7,997) two rungs below 1:1 ($5K to $25K). Coaches who only do 1:1 cap revenue at calendar hours.
